lyamandmorri posted part of her costume for the Queen of Hearts and it inspired me. :) I didn't use a pattern, but I did use these a-line skirt instructions and altered them a bit. I am horrible at sewing and decided to just wing it, really, and it turned out much better than expected. Also bought a headband to fake as a crown lol, and made a bag out of the heart cards (and then some extras).

From Joann's: 2 yards black (just in case I messed up, and I figured it'd be nice to have extra fabric to stash), 1 yard red, 1 yard of red string, and a 7" black zipper: $12.27 + tax.

Deck of cards from Silver Legacy, Reno: free (from a huge box of cards we got from my aunt who worked at the gift shop).

Headband (instead of expensive, somewhat obnoxious-snotty tiara) from The Icing: $4.50 + tax.

(& creating my own costume successfully and on the cheap: priceless!)
