Painting a messenger bag lining

craftgrrlI have a black messenger bag that I'd like to "recycle". Its black on the outside (which I like) and a light blue on the inside (which I don't like). I'd like to paint the inside lining to make it a dark green.
Can I use regular fabric paint? Or should I look for a specific type of paint? And will it come off the pockets if I decide to put things in it? (like credit card pockets, pencil pockets, ect.)
