My first pair of self-made knitting needles!

It was ridiculously easy. I just cut a small dowel to size, sharpened it using a pencil sharpener, and sanded them with medium, fine, then extra-fine grit sandpaper. Then I oiled them using olive oil, rubbed it in with a cloth, and then rubbed them for a LONG time with a piece of wax paper (this fills in any rough patches that may be left and keeps the yarn from catching). Then I put a nail through the glass bead and tacked it to the needle. This was hard to do... I damaged the end of the needle which you can see in this picture, but I fixed that later with some sandpaper. The nail didn't hold the bead as securely as I wanted, so I used some epoxy glue to seal the bead on. Et voila!

I've made a few more using wood stain before the oiling process, and they look really cool, too.
