Learning to sew...

Hello ladies and gents. I DIRELY need to learn to sew. It's a mission from God. I have a sewing machine and everything! Thing is, I have not the slightest clue how to sew, no idea, not even a little. But I really would like to learn.

My question is simple: Do you know of any good books that break down sewing into simple layman's term and make it really easy. My craftiness factor parallels that of a Down syndrome monkey. I actually think that's unfair to a Down syndrome monkey, but you get what I'm saying. I need a very simple book.
