I made some knitting needles just now:

I had bought the wood a while ago but I hadn't gotten around to actually using it... I wanted to make my own just because, but also because I don't rilly like metal or plastic needles, so I was hoping wooden ones might be to my liking. I think I like them.

I just whittled down the tips with a big buck knife I use for opening envelopes and then I used two grades of sandpaper to smooth it all out, followed by a good rub on a pair of denim jeans. They're pretty smooth, though maybe I'll try using a wax to make them smoother.

For the ends I used some little Hello Kitty figures I bought a bunch of a while ago. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the figures and at the end of the needles and then I used a segment of a paper clip and superglue to hold it together. Hopefully they won't be going anywhere.

Anyway I knitted with them a little before I put the ends on and they felt nice. Oh, the are 13's, 12 inches long.
