"I feel pretty.. oh so pretty..."

Ingredients:
1 60" x 60" square of cloth cut from an old sheet
Black rit dye & dyeing accoutrements
Old red t-shirt
4-6 yds red net, 60" wide
3-4 yds each red and black lace
4/8" non-roll elastic
This tutorial

First I took my old bedsheet and cut a sqare out of it, then dyed it with Rit dye until it was black (it started out white). Then I followed the aforementioned tutorial to make the basic "skirt" using the sheet material and part of an old t-shirt. Then I cut my net in half lengthwise, and folded it over twice. After this I gathered and pinned it to the skirt, using a "pinch and fold" technique with about half an inch of fabric at a time all the way around.

Step Four (Sew this way ->->->):

When I would run out of net, I would take a new piece and start again, overlapping it slightly with the old one. I sewed it all down with a tight zigzag stitch. Then I hemmed the skirt, and added lace trim just above the ruffles and the hem. The waistband is just a casing over the elastic, which means you basically sew a tube with the elastic inside and scrunch up the extra fabric. The elastic should fit around your waist/hips when slightly stretched.
Yay! I'm going to wear it under all kinds of skirts, and even by itself. Everybody should have a petticoat. It's hard to feel sad when you're wearing something that froofy.

It kinda looks like a flower. Or a sombrero with no top...
