Feb. 12th, 2005 11:15 pmI made this necklace in september and posted it in my personal journal. The description from there is also behind the cut. There was a post recently with a site that had jewelry made from computer parts that reminded me to post this. Any suggestions on how to cut computer guts into small pieces?
i am just so insanely happy with this necklace i made. i think i may have come up with the idea when i read about someone using car parts in their jewelry.... but that was beadwork.. and car parts... not the same...
anyways, on to the description and pictures. i used 3 computer chips, 2 from my dad's postage scale (love it when the postage rates change, he gets a new chip!) and the other one.. i don't remember, i have boxes full of his old computer tho.. tore it apart looking for things to use. um, black plastic coated wire from the comp, and tiny store bought jump rings for the maille because i was being lazy and it's hard to make such small rings with 20g steel. also, i think they're nickle plated = very shiny. it's a little sloppy because i wanted to finish it before going out the other nite, there are some loose wire ends that are a little scratchy but nothing i can't deal with. wouldn't give it to someone else to wear without fixing that tho. and i finally used my magnetic clasp! worked pretty good =)
oh yea, i used a few smaller black rings that i did make with 22g dark annealed steel, which i'm not entirely sure is safe to use for something that is touching my skin.. but its just a little. (and i hate that coated "craft wire" its copper wire with plastic stuff, and so flimsy)
