Question for the sewing mavens

My sewing machine has a bobbin winder on it. However, every time I try to use it, the bobbin winds unevenly. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

ETA: Thank you for your suggestions -- it turns out that if I use my fingers, it works perfectly. Thanks so much!
