I work at an independant craft store, and have been volunteered to teach a beginning sewing class. Great! I love teaching! But. I have been sewing since I could walk. I have no idea how to structure a class or what is too much information.

Anyone here newer to sewing and have suggestions?

The class is geared toward ages 10-18. Time really isn't a factor. I can have as many classes for as long as I like. But the more sessions = higher cost of class = lower attendance.

I will break the classes into three 2 hour sessions.

Session one:
All lecture. Review basic tools, show them how to use a sewing machine, explain the difference between fabrics, teach them how to read a pattern, etc.

Session two:
Everyone is on their own to make a pillow (or two, depending on time).

Session three:
Basic skirt or pj pants.

Do you think it would be too much to try and explain everything and have them make a pillow on the first day? Or would it be better to have two 3 hour classes and combine session 1 & 2?

Thank you!
