Paint & Pressboard?

craftgrrlOkay. I just want a little advice before I start pricing things for this project I want to do.
I have these two pressboard pieces of furniture (a printer table and a glass cabinet to be exact) and I want to paint them purple to go with the room.
My question is should I beware using paint on these? Or will it be okay to color them and make them look better?
Also, I'm trying to do a shelf above some blinds, does anyone know if they sell pre-made decorative cut shelving? Any help would be great, thanks! ^.^
