making greeting cards

I seem to have a problem making cards. I'm not using cardstock, just construction paper. When I use more than one layer to make the body of the card, I always end up with a really weird fold. I glue the pieces together when the card is in half and when I unfold it and lay the card flat it seems like the pieces aren't matched up or something and the top layer gets bunched up at the crease. There is probably a simple solution to this like gluing the pieces in a different order. Anyone? I'm sure pictures would help, so if no one figures it out by the time my dad gets home with the camera, I'll edit to post some. Thanks!
