First off, I had a nasty ink stain on the bottom of my favorite tank top which fits my long torso perfectly, so I couldn't cut off the stained region. Instead, I whipped out my fabric paints and a cute dino sponge. Freehanded the heart because i wanted it to look asymmetric.

Then, I set forth on transforming a pair of old pj pants (that were far too short) into a cute skirt. I the lacy tulle stuff on the bottom is made from a Barbie skirt who's velcro was dead.

There you can see where the Dino is and the pattern on the skirt

There's an idea of the length of it. I hand sewed the tulley stuff from the inside with intentionally contrasting brown thread. in person you can see all of the thread clearly, oscillating around my skirt.
