Fun find for faux finishes!
Dec. 16th, 2002 08:58 pmI've made a ton of wine charm sets to give as gifts, and for each one I bought a little cheapy box at Michael's - some of the little wooden ones, some the brown decoupage. For my grad school mentor I made a celestial set, and to make the box I started with one of the thin wooden ones and painted it shimmery silver. It looked chintzy, but I wasn't sure what to do. Then I looked up an on my table was a bag of those little cosmetic sponge wedges (long story, but they were tucked inside my sewing kit). I daubed a little indigo paint on one end and rubbed it onto the silver box and VOILA! It came out this shimmery pewter color and it looks really fabulous. On the inside, I did the same thing but reverse - silver on top of the blue - and it's just really neat. I can't post any pics BUT -
Cosmetic sponge wedges are my new favorite paint accessory.
