Pre-beginner Sewing Questions.
Jun. 1st, 2005 05:05 pmI have been watching all you girls with all your lovely sewing projects for quite a while, and want to see if i like it. How did you learn to sew? Did you scrounge up a machine and wing it? Take lessons or a class? (If so how much did you pay for how many hours?) Did your (insert family member here) teach you? When did you feel confident that you knew enough or liked it enough to get your own machine? My mother-in-law used to have a business that revolved around sewing, she has a regular machine and a serger i believe, but has terrible tennis elbow and crappy arthritis that keeps her from doing much sewing these days. I think she would be happy to teach me provided we took it easy, but i am hesitant because well...it sounds like a bad idea. We like eachother just fine, but I have some reservations. There is a sewing¬ions store in the area that is going to start beginners lessons for about 45 dollars (canadian dollars if you are american think between 35-40 dollars) for 10 hours of instruction with a class size of 4. The main project would be pyjamas. Does this sound decent? I think that me and my MIL would probably bond well over sewing...but i don't wanna put her through my clueless stage. What do you think?
