Help Me?

OKay ladies, I've been a patient girl. But my patience only goes so far.

Through some books and a premade granny square, I've got a good hand on the stitches and I've been busy making a purse and the top half of a granny square bikini (ooohhh). But. . .

I am sick of making row after row. I want to make toys and stuffed animals (I've got some kiddie birthdays coming up here, including a first birthday), but I can't master making circles that don't turn into tubes or fuzzy doilies.

So my question is, do any of you know what I am doing wrong? Its fustrating me and no one I know locally crochets.
