Stretching canvas?

I bought these really cute canvas mary-janes a few days ago, but the problem is that they are a little tight on the top. So I was wondering how I could stretch it a little bit. I already tried making them wet and then putting a bottle in the shoe to stretch it, but that didn't work very much.
Any ideas?
