petrified wood?

do any of you know: if i bought a slab of petrified wood, can i cut it/drill it/shape it using my dremel? i've been able to do those things with shell and some stones, but i am not sure if the make up of the wood is different enough to prevent me from using the dremel on it - and i don't want to drop the money if i can't do those things! thanks in advance!
