How about a hat out of the stuff?

The hat from the side view. The band is some black dangly bead trim I had lying around with black braided trim sewn over that, then the whole shmear sewn onto the hat. The side got decorated with a plain black dyed chicken feather and a stellar blue jay feather I also had lying around, last but not least, I wrapped one of my bones from jewelry making with black wire then sewed that on. The bone I had dyed with some black leather dye then rubbed it off resulting in that purple-ish color. The trim looks crooked in the photo, but it's not.......

A view from the top, the width of the brim is 5". Did I mention I wanted a floppy hat? The back part of the brim looks like I sewed it crooked, I think that part got folded under for the photo because it's not like that IRL, you'll notice a nice graceful curve in the following photo......

And the inside lining, true it's bright red, but all the black I have has some poly in it and the hat's already velvet, and black, I figured as much breathability using cotton was best.
The hardest parts were coming up with the sizing for the pattern and working with the cotton velvet in that oval shape. I got a few puckers here and there despite valiant attempts at easing, but not too shabby for my first attempt at a hat.
