silver ring
Jun. 26th, 2005 01:02 amI know I just posted my brother's hemp jewelry, but this one deserves its own post. My boyfriend is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in materials engineering, and he made this ring in one of his materials classes. For my birthday (um, which was a while ago, I just never thought to post it before tonight - I remembered people sometimes post cool silver stuff here)! Whee! I don't know much about it except that it's pure (? as close as it gets I guess) silver and cast using some kind of a mold. Plaster maybe? I dunno if that would hold up to silver, but I don't remember what he told me he used. I think they used clay to make the initial mold. He carved it so that my initials would look like they were carved into the silver. It was a pretty complicated process... including the mold/melted silver being spun around so the silver would fill the mold. I love it and I love that he made it for me!

Hope you think it's as cool as I do... ;) I'll stop gushing now.
