Jul. 14th, 2005 12:08 amI finally got my Hufflepuff costume all finished! Yay! These aren't the best photos of it ever, but I didn't have such good lighting conditions (the one break in the constant storms we've been having) and I had to take them myself (no one home at the minute to do so). So here it is! I can't wait to run around in it on Friday night!

I made my prefect badge from scratch. I'm so proud! *sniffs* If anyone is curious, I cut the shape out of matte board, then covered that in origami foil. I printed out a "P" I liked onto double sided matte paper, placed it on top of the foil, and then used the tip of an x-acto to make tiny dots all around the "P." (Essentially I made a connect the dots sort of pattern with a lot of tiny holes.) Then I used a sharpie to fill in the P. I tried bacl nail polih first for a more 3D shiny look, but that looked like crap, so I did a new one with sharpie. I then added some small indentions around the edge of the foil with the knife tip, then mixed and poured envirotex resin over the whole thing, and let it sit for 72 hours. It was still a little sticky as I apparently didn't use enough catalyst in my resin, so I got a spray polyeurethane to coat it with. It's a weeeee bit tacky to the touch, but it's done! Oh yeah, then I just glued a pin on the back. :) So you can't tell, but that's coated in clear plastic.

Remember kids, be safe when using toxic chemicals!
