How to Sew a Donut?

Hi, if you know how to sew a donut-shaped cushion, please do let me know. I tried cutting out two donut-shaped pieces of fabric, pinned them right sides together, then sewed the entire outer circumference, and then part of the inner circumference ... but that didn't work.
