I posted earlier, searching for hairpins - the silver, open-ended, non-bobby pin type. Found them!
The brand is Sta-Rite, and the large 3" sizes are available at Sally Beauty Supply.
Here is a link to where the smaller 2" size can be purchased online, even by the pound:

Sta-Rite also has a bunch of other pin types, such as the "hair forks", etc.
