pretty dress!
Aug. 15th, 2005 04:20 pmi made a post earlier about this dress to ask for help with the skirt ( http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/6390423.html ) and this is what i ended up with (sorry for the poor quality pics)...

the panelled bodice is made of pink crepe-back satin and is covered in sequins that go from clear at the top to white in the middle and then to pink at the bottom. its fully lined with a zip and hook and eye in the back and there is a ribbon finishing detail around the top.

the skirt is made of several layers of shimmery voile in pink and white with 'lettuce leaf edging' and random sequin details. i used big offset rectangles and then cut a circle in the middle, i loosely stictched round the circle to keep all the layers where i wanted them, then i cut an arc shape out of each side of each rectangle from one corner to the other. using a small zigzag stitch i sewed round all of the rectangles, pulling it gently as it went through the machine. because of the arcs i cut out of the rectangles, the edges were all on a bias so this created the lettuce leaf effect. it's ruffled into the bodice to give it extra poofiness.

theres also a short underskirt (coz voile is see-through after all!) in the same crepe-back satin as the bodice. the underskirt is panelled like the bodice and each panel is a sort of diamond shape. i did the lettuce leaf (im getting so bored of typing that, does anyone know if theres another name?) edging on the underskirt aswell

ok, i think thats it. i shall leave you with one parting shot of the whole dress

tada!
