First post!
Aug. 21st, 2005 07:02 pmHi! I'm Chesh. I've never posted here and don't comment much (since I have nothing actually useful to say) but I keep meaning to make a post. I've got about a year of crap to weed through and display for your approval. Or disgust, I suppose.
About 185KB of pictures here--not too bad, right?
people-sized things:

It's one of the first things I did--I wanted to see if I could make a bag. I can't, really, as shown by its lopsidedness. I stencilled the star pocket on the front, and it's trimmed with black ribbon. ... And it's lavender, if you can't tell.
The inside is one of my dad's old dress shirts--tiny black and white plaid.
I used this craftster tutorial.
And clothes!

Shirt! From stretchy dollar-table fabric. The first thing I sewed successfully with stretchy fabric (and a lot of newspaper). Since I like to overcomplicate things just to see if I can raise my blood pressure, it's actually eight separate asymmetrical pieces that line up to create... an asymmetrical shirt. It was going to have a normal hemline, but once I had it all sewn together up to the point it's at now, I decided I liked it better that way. I pulled the pattern out of my ass.

DRESS. This dress is my sweet baby. It had to go to Omaha and back with me so
theapostleinme could help me pin the ruffle in place (damn ruffle). It's spent months sitting around my room. AND NOW IT IS COMPLETE. I might add something to the front--the stripes don't line up quite right and I'd like to cover it--but probably not any time soon. It makes my twiggy-ass body feel more like a bombshell when I wear it, and that is sweet.
The dress was inspired by the New Look 6402 pattern, which I bought, fully intending to make the dresses in it... and discovered that it's way too big for me. Stupid patterns! So I used the bodice pieces as reference to make my own (and still ended up with a completely different neckline) and winged the rest. As far as fabric goes, it's all cotton--the stripes are kind of thin without much stretch, but the solid red is a nice stretchy jersey. I got it all at JoAnn's, I think.
Since the dolls are so goofy-looking, I'm putting them at the end. Hand-sewing isn't really my thing, and I'm afraid that if they were at the beginning, people would be like "dear GOD! This girl can't sew!" They were fun to make, though, if you ignore the hand cramps and needle wounds.
Their hair and eyes are hot glued on--although the felt for the eyes is all sewn together--and their mouths are sharpie. It's not a high class establishment I'm running here.

This is Garrett. I made him for
rocknrollpsycho, because I love her and he's a character of hers. He's got a change of clothes in that bag--jeans (made out of my old Levis) and a wifebeater (made out of... an old wifebeater), but he's cuter this way.
He also has his nipple pierced under that shirt, but he's far too shy to show you.

This is Travis, who was a gift to
silvertiger for her birthday. Since she's an artist with Mad Skillz, I based him off of ... a drawing she did of him... but I can't find it now. Goddamn! Anyway, he was wearing the UFO shirt, and I printed out the design and ironed it on a teeny tiny t-shirt for him. He's also wearing corduroys, which were a pain to make--I made them too small. For a plush doll. Why? Because I'm slow.
There! Maybe tomorrow I'll fish through my jewelry and get some of that up, too. I have a ton of it.
