hello! a newbie here...
Aug. 28th, 2005 08:02 pmI was introduced to this community by my friend the lovely
sykopixee. Over the past six months I have really gotten into beading... a lot. I have so much fun with it. The best thing about beading is that if you don't like what you make, or you get tired of it and don't want it anymore, you can just whip up something else brand-new that you like better. It allows me to tinker around with tools and that makes me very happy. I've actually gone around my house and taken necklaces that I bought at the store and are tired of and rip them apart for the beads. My skills range from simple to intermediate, I haven't gotten super fancy yet, but I'd like to learn. The newest thing I have done is the coiling memory wire bracelets. I've made three of them. The ones that I like the best are the ones that are an amalgam of pretty much every beading project I've done to date. It's like a patchwork quilt, but for beads! I've gotten bad about not taking pictures of new stuff, but I'll get better about it now that I'm posting here.

Cracked quartz with some pretty glass beads, a silver charm I picked up at the "hippie" store. Yes, I'm wearing a shirt. It's a tank top!

Agate with pink pearl glass beads, carved charm, from beading show.

Black onyx beads with silver finishings, butterfly provided by my enabler,

My first necklace...*sniffle* Oh the memories!

This is me:

My name is Miranda. I'll try to find a picture that is less surly next time.
Here are the bracelets.
The patchwork ones:

I usually wear them together, like so:

And the porcelain one:

Before I went on this beading odyssey, I did a lot of sewing-related crafting in high school. I can embroider like nobody's business, and everyone thought was nuts when I customized a pair of jeans with embroidery. I've been a bit distracted with the beading, which has kept me from finishing my last sewing project. I ripped a new skirt a few months ago, and it ticked me off to no end. I decided to cover the whole thing with corderoy patches. While I have finished the front, I haven't gotten around to the back of it. I'll post pictures on that another day.
I look forward to being in the community! I won't do a mile-long entry next time!
