I did this just the other day for a friend. She bought two flat sheets for her bed (queen size), and I stitched them together on all three sides except for the bottom, which I left open. Inside the comforter cover, I stitched three 15" pieces of bias tape along the top seam, two in the corners, and one in the middle. On her comforter, I stitched another three, so she could tie them together and the comforter wouldn't slip down. At the bottom edge, which I'd left open, I stitched on 12 bias tape ties, 6 on each side, so she could close it. Matching pillow cases were made with the leftovers (two queen sized pillow cases, and two white pillow cases with just a strip of fabric all around by the opening.) It was great, and she only ended up paying $30 for everything. Her husband, who hates flowery anything, even liked it! I think I'm going to be making one for myself next time. :D
