craftgrrl | drill for jewellery making

I'm so sorry if this has been asked before ( i did check the memories and couldn't find anything) and i'll delete it straight away if it has, but anyway..............

I've been making my own jewellery for a while and i want to start making cute charms from buttons, but i have a couple of questions -

1. What sort of drill do i need to get to drill holes in the buttons? I'm sure i could find one on ebay i just don't know what to search for! Any jewellery makers in the UK have any suggestions?

2. How do i remove the shank from a button in order to make it into a charm?

I'm so sorry for the boring post, but i thought this would be the best place to ask.
