okay, i'm planning to make a scarf for my husband.

i started knitting one (first knitting project ever) and was doing okay, but the edges were curling and even with the huge needles i'm using, it will take well past christmas to finish. i'm not procrastinating on this, it's just that i had to finish projects for my father and one of my best friends as well, so i'm just now getting back to the scarf.

also, the one i was knitting was a lime green, and it's kinda goofy looking in comparison to his really nice winter coat (long black cashmere, you know the type), and he already has a kinda goofy looking knit hat in a different color, so i didn't want him to feel completely stupid wearing everything at once.

anyways, i was thinking - i have some beautiful wool suiting (the thin wool fabric used for pricey suits) in a gray that would be really nice and more dressed-up when paired with his coat. he doesn't want fringe anyways, so i could just sew two long rectangles together and make a simple but elegant scarf.

there's my question - would it be weird to have a scarf that's sewn, and a piece of fabric, rather than knitted or crocheted? i don't want to cut up the wool and lose it (it was $9 a yard, and i definitely have enough for my intended project plus this, but if i don't cut it up then i could use the excess for a skirt later) if it's going to look silly and not scarf-like. thoughts?
