Altered book!
Dec. 20th, 2005 02:44 amYay! My first altered book project is one to be given as a gift. Warning, under the cut it gets image heavy...
The cover and spine
The first image, inside. Every page has my friend on it, since the book is about her...
A little dedication...
A little about her very long hair...
She is a vegetarian. The photo collaging at left really makes me laugh. The photo was actually her opening the birthday present I gave her this year, but I cut that out and made her diving into some salad. :)
She's into Asian culture. The yellow bits are from the wrapper of the 10 pairs of chopsticks I bought and made some into the hair sticks for my sister that I've posted here. Really got a lot out of that chopsticks pack! :) The flute playing Asian lady is one I drew myself.
The arrow pointing to my friend says "Animation fan," and this page spread highlights anime, which she loves. The middle flap is an added bit, and in the film squares are some of her favorite anime/characters.
Other side of that spread. See, the recurring theme for the book is puzzle pieces... hence the anime faces on puzzle shaped pieces
Her Disney fan-ness.
Behind the Cinderella's Castle cutout are puzzle shaped pieces of a Magic Kingdom map. On the next page, collaged Mickeys from napkins, and labels from shampoo bottles, both found in the hotel room she and I stayed at (Contemporary Resort) when we went to Disney together this year. Behind this page is a photo of Kari with her favorite, Figment from Epcot
Figment folds out, to reveal some cute pics of Donald Duck, another favorite. Also, the words "Imagination can turn your world upside down!"
She is a *huge* fan of monorails. :) Especially "the blue one." I stuck a tiny printed photo of her looking down from inside the monorail, and the reaching-up-Kari is from a pic of her actually reaching up toward monorail tracks. At the left is another pic of her with her roommate and my best friend, Dennis a.k.a. "Dee."
I happened to find this in one of my circle-word books, a puzzle about famous cartoonists, something else she's into. Written in pink highlighter inside the puzzle, it says, "CLEVER GRRL."
My favorite part!! She's into 60's/70's. Here's a tribute to that. I made the photos of her here sepia toned, then just re-colored her blue shirt. Its all on tye-dye paper. The little medallion in front of her is a tarnished brass(ish) girl with flowers in her hair, a pendant I've been holding onto for years, just waiting to find something cool to end up in. And on the right...
A shadow box section, with wooden frame, in which I strung seed and "E" beads to make a "beaded curtain." Behind this is another toned and colored pic of Kari, sitting in a little psychedelic "room." At the top of the frame is a scrapbooking sticker that stays "PAST." Fake flower, and some lucky finds of someone's hand holding a "peace" sign, and some hippie-tastic stickers of smiley faces and peace signs that I've had for years. :)
Turn past the shadow box section, and you see this! An ending dedication, and at the right is a (lousy, but the only one I had) photo of her and I together. The End!
Enjoy!
