Cloche hat instructions
Dec. 28th, 2005 11:29 pmI don't know how many people have seen the new King Kong yet, but I fell in love with Ann Darrow's light blue cloche hat. I was just going to buy myself one, rather than making it, but all the cloche hats that are sold now-a-days are 1. not felt and 2. have a wide downward pointing brim, rather than a very narrow one that curls up and 3. are symmetrical, rather than pulled low over the ears.
Unfortunately, this tiny picture is the only thing I could find online: http://www.oscarzine.com/e05/kingkong/8.jpg. Most of her movie stills are from the island rather than the beginning of the film.
Does anyone have any hat-making tips for me about making something like this? I've checked the memories, but most of the hat making tips are focused on knit hats, and I really don't think Ann's hat was knitted and then felted. For those who have seen the movie, it was pretty clear that there was a seam or a folder edge that went diagonally down the front of the hat, which made it look like pieces of felt that had been sewn together and then wrapped around somehow.
Similar to this are the hats that the Beaubaxtons girls wore in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which were hilarious. They remind me alternately of either a hershey kiss or a condom, but I kind of want to make one of those too :)
Early Happy New Year, everyone!
