If this is inappropriate, please delete without drama, but I have a question for any crafters out there with experience/ideas/advice...

Here's the situation:

I am, among other things, a jeweler. I'm known particularly for the pieces in my Silver Leaves Collection...pieced which generally involve a good amount of material cost, as well as work time. It is in regards to these pieces that the question arises.

I was asked/given the opportunity to sell my work at an event. This would be extremely good for me, as I seem to fall too well into the starving artist category, and that kind of venue would help not only with immediate (potential) profit, but with reputation. I have been gathering commissions largely through word-of-mouth, so..yeah.

Here's where it gets tricky. I'm in Chicago, and the event is in New Jersey. There's no way for me to travel right now, besides which, I am also at a loss for professional displays, the ability to take credit cards, and other such useful-at-event things.

The man in charge of the event, who invited me to vend at it, seems a more-than-decent sort, and is interested enough in having my work represented, that he has taken a bit of pity on me. He has offered a contract for my security, and the opportunity to send my work, and have him arrange to sell for me. Assuming I could manage the time and overhead cost to actually make things to send/sell there, in the first place. When the contract was proposed, the basic premise of, "You send stuff, I promise to return the stuff in the same state, or the value thereof" was given. I currently have the ball in my court, to suggest what I would like the contract to include, say, in more detail.

So my question (unless you have tangental advice) is this...assuming this is all managable...what would you include in this contract? What would you do to try to make it legally binding? What would you want to arrange, for your monetary, artistic and mental security? Has anyone ever sold through this kind of arrangement, before?

Thanks, in advance, for any tips/ideas/advice/info. :-)
