Wall-hanging (not a quilt)
Jan. 31st, 2006 08:13 amWe have a giant empty wall in our front room that really needed to be filled. I started this wall-hanging forever ago, worked on it a while & then did not touch it for months. The holidays are partially to blame, but the main reason is that after making patchwork all day at work I do not want to touch the stuff! I want to work on new crafts!! ;) I guess all of the New Years resolutions got me motivated to finish it up over the last few weekends...

Here is a view from the side ~ you can see the size of it compared to the sofa & door. Our sofa is a "lovely" rose color... not really my color of choice, but it was in new condition & free. The colors of the wall-hanging were chosen to blend the rose color in with the burgundy/dark red, black & silver that we have in the room.

This thing is so large, even standing against the opposite wall I could barely fit the whole wall-hanging in the picture. I was using inside light for the pictures, so the colors are not that great, but they are pretty close.

The patchwork is random (turned on point) with some Seminole & some black & silver stripes mixed in. The silver stripe is actually a glittery spiral print ribbon I bought & sewed over one of the red fabrics (the ribbon is see through). There are 6 calico fabrics & a solid black border. A lot of the fabrics are flower prints, and there is one great paisley print.
(And no, it is not a quilt. No batting, no fabric across the back, and no quilting.)
To hang it we bought two dowels, a double sided screw, wood glue & two hooks. I spray painted the ends of the dowels black. It is so light (like a big piece of fabric) that we didn't have to use any heavy-weight hangers.
