I made a necklace and earrings for an elderly aunt's birthday gift. I used Aventurine beads and some glass beads, accented by gold filled beads. Since she has arthritis, I also used a magnetic clasp, something I'm using more and more, even for my own necklaces. They're quick and easy to remove - but a bit pricey I paid $3 apiece last time I bought some.
