i made an outfit this weekend!

once a plain "jerzee" tee from michael's, i faded/softened/aged it by soaking it in 6 cups water w/ 1.5 cups salt and i think 1.5 cups bleach. soaked it for 3 days. then i cut out/widened the neckline and shortened the sleeves a little. the flowers are cut out of white cloth and sewn on, and the text in the center is written on with a black sharpie. this was my first really major t-shirt reconstruction, i usually stick to stencilling with fabric paint.

detail of the flowers.

detail of the text. it says "oleander, oleander, will you bloom again this spring?" it's from sarah harmer's song "oleander", from the i'm a mountain disc. which is amazing. i'm not sure if i like how this turned out, writing on fabric with a sharpie is harder than i imagined. also i'm afraid it will run when i wash the shirt, even though the memories here (or maybe in t shirt surgery) say it won't.

the skirt! i'm not a sew-er so this was pretty exciting for me. i originally wanted to make a circle skirt but the only material i liked at fabricland was 46" wide. so my mom helped me make up a really wide a-line skirt instead.

close-up of drawstring, which is just i-cording with a fancy little spade type thing at the ends.

rick-rack!

and just incase you're curious, cuz it's visible in the first pic, one of my tattoos. which is new.
thanks for looking!
