Mar. 19th, 2006 08:13 pmso, i was having a bag issue. i had two that i liked, but one was too small and the other was far too big. end of the world, right? i know. so this weekend, i set myself onto the task of making a new bag, and i now have i think the best thing i've ever made.

it's nice and sturdy, made out of olive canvas and maroon... something similar. duckcloth, maybe. it wasn't labeled. either way. both very thick cloths. my sewing machine didn't seem to like it much, even with a heavy duty needle. i only bent one needle, and that was at the very end, so i was pretty pleased. i didn't have a pattern or anything, i mostly just examined the too-big bag and figured something out based on that.

i picked the lining color because i wanted it to match this neat kangaroo patch i bought off of day-lab several months ago.

the bag has several features i'm pretty proud of. in addition to the strap, there's a handle on the top.

there's this little zippered pouch thing that has pencil pocket on the outside. this was a feature of the too-big bag that i really liked and i think i did a surprisingly decent job replicating it here. as you can see, my thread didn't match very well, but i wanted upholstery thread and this was as close as it came. it's green, not white like it looks here... just a lighter green. same with the zipper... didn't match super well, but oh well.

a cellphone pocket.

and a strap pad thing, stuffed with two layers of fleece. i accidentally sewed the strip holding it onto the strap inside-out, but by the time i noticed i didn't really care.
but yeah! i'm pretty darn proud of it.
