Mar. 26th, 2006 01:08 pmAfter oooohing and aaaaaahing over some of the quilting blogs I've seen, I finally made my first quilted thing ever! It's not fancy at all --the fabric was pinked and sewn on in layers (instead of pieced and sewn), and it's tied with red embroidery floss instead of quilted-- but I love it. The top is a bunch of thrifted vintage fabrics (70's polyester, anyone?), and it's backed and lined with recycled fabric (an old fitted sheet) that (almost) matches the yellow plaid perfectly. Instead of batting, I used double layers of recycled jersey knit (old tees); this has to be the heaviest pillowcase ever!

Here you can get a better idea of the pinking & stitching.
Over time the edges will fray, to further accentuate its 70's goodness.
And even though this picture was taken latelatelate at night (you can see the time on my ghetto clock) and the lighting is horrible and it's a little blurry, it's very important to me already because it has both of my favorite boys in it. The one on the right isn't a kitten (he's almost two!), he's just tiny; the one on the left is my old man (nineteen this year!) whom I've had since I was six. I ♥♥♥ them both.
