elastic question

craftgrrlhave any of you ever tried hand-sewing with elastic? I'm tempted to try it but want to get other opinions first. I love that 
not that you can see it too well here, but... look but i don't want to risk it coming untied/unrolled/unpinned so I was thinking of just adding some elastic to the top and closing it up so i could slip it on and be on my merry way. so any input would be wonderful.
