Hey all! Thanks so much for the wonderful community, I love all the great ideas here.

My craft of choice is definitely cross stitch, though I work mostly from pattern. I tend to take a long time to complete them, because I like doing larger ones.
These are two past ones I've done:

The stitched area measured about 12x12 inches on this one, and it was a gift for my parents.

This one was larger, about 20 inches across, I think. I made it for my partner's brother's family, as a gift. It was originally supposed to be a baby announcement type family tree, but I just changed it a little to make it a family tree of him, his partner, their children and their parents.

Now, I'm currently working on this one, though it's slow going because I'm in my fourth year of university:

This is just a picture from the Janlynn website, as mine is about half done. This is the one my question is about.

I was making this for my partner's grandfather, an American, an eagle collector and second world war veteran. Like I said, it's about half done. Unfortunately, Grandpa passed away Thursday, without even knowing I was making it. I enclosed a picture of it in his coffin, but I really feel like I should (and I want to) finish it. I'm not sure what I should do with it, though. His partner passed away almost 20 years ago, and he left behind 4 children. I was considering giving it to my partner's parents, but our relationship is touchy at best. I haven't ruled it out though. Also, I was thinking of putting Grandpa's name in one of the corners, dedicating it to his memory, and maybe donating it to the VFW. I'm really not sure what to do, but I do want to finish it.

What would be your suggestion, both for personalization/memory of Grandpa, and for what to do with the finished product.?

Thanks for reading! :)
