Dress/Top for my baby girl
May. 8th, 2006 09:13 pmThis is the first time I have ever sewed an article of clothing without a pattern. I decided to make my daughter a sun dress based off of these instructions: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=49544.0
I've never made anything like this without a pattern before. I would say I am a strict pattern girl -but now I am thinking I am able to do more. I have a few other ideas for dresses for her in my mind.
This is what I ended up with:

Here is a close-up of the material. I love frogs and just had to buy this material!!!!

I tried to get a decent shot of my 13 month old in the dress but she just learned to walk and is all over the place. I never really got a decent shot, but you get the idea. I still need to make some bloomers for it.

The following is what I made initially. It was supposed to be a dress but I didn't take into account that the bottom needed to be wider than the top (especially for diaper wearing babies). So I ended up with this long straight sun dress. It looked cute but I didn't think she'd be able to get around too well. So I cropped it and made it into a top for her. I even put slits on the sides at the bottom. Now she just needs a pair of dark blue jean capris and she'll be set!

I was quite proud of myself and now I feel like trying a few other things out.
Thanks for looking.
