Making my own "Nightfly"

craftgrrlI´m thinking about making my own version of Catarina Larsson´s very beautiful but also expensive (around 300 dollars) hanging lamp "Nightfly":
Have the basics figured out but I´m still unsure about what kind of cloth to use. It must be rather stiff or I have to use starch, and I don´t know if that would be safe... Suggestions?
