Glittery finish?

Crafters... I was hoping you could help. I was wondering if anyone could suggest to me a way to get the same kind of glittery finish Dita uses on her props. I was thinking base coat paint, heavy glitter, and then a clear top coat varnish. But I am not sure. Here are some photos of her props.
