Random craft + personal story
Jun. 9th, 2006 03:06 pmI was about to throw away a couple random magnets I've had for years, but was instead inspired to fix up, and add onto a couple personal keepsakes :)
When I moved out, and got my own apartment I made a bunch of magnets, and other random household things that reminded me of home, and were just 'me'. I grew up in a farming family, and spent most every day with cows, horses, and working on farms and such. When I moved into the city 2 hours away I only had my rats and a bunny and wanted some reminders of my favorite part of home.

I tossed these together using pictures of a couple baby cows from the farm including my personal pet "Liver". I put no finish on them or anything.
Fast forward 5 years later, and they are spotted, blotched, and pretty much ruined from years of abuse, and being wiped off. I was actually surprised they have held up this long. In Oct my Gramma passed away, and I inherited her magnets. Many of them were little crafts that I made, and things she bought that reminded her of me. Magnets have always been a special part of my life because of Gramma and the fond memories of her.
I've been decorating the house for kiddo, and with that doing little things that ment so much to me when Gramma did them. Alphabet magnets, and magnets of things she likes, as well as things that are important to me. I hang up all her scribbles, and pictures of her and other things for her to look at.
I decided rather than tossing out these memorable magnets I would make them pretty again, since it adds that artistic touch to my "farm" kiction.
I painted over a few of the wore off spots, added trim, and a few more details. I added a few thick coats of finish, and we'll see if I get another 5 years from these damned things *G*

I know it's not a huge craft, or all too impressive but ment a lot to me and is still cute so I figured I'd post it anyways :)
