Jul. 20th, 2006 08:05 pmI made a new bag and a new skirt!! This bag was completely... well, it was an adventure to say the least. The skirt was just a simple thing :-) I like simplicity.

I made it a zip-top! First ever. I used the Lined Zippered Pouch Tutorial on Craftster.org for the concept and kind of just.. went at it like a handbag and not a pouch. And then after the bag was all put together, I "sunk" the zipper down and stitched it around the edges so it would stay... which you can see what I mean in the second picture a little bit.

I took
sassi214's bag/shape/idea and put pockets on the outside sort of like she does or at least the best I could. Next time I make this bag (and there will be a next time), I will make the pockets taller and attatch them better.. I sewed "dots" on the top to hold the pocket closer to the bag - Here is a pictuer with my cell phone sitting in the pocket. Oh, and you can see the buttons I sewed on to hold the handles up on the band a bit which I think is a nice touch!

I love the handle/pocket lining/bag lining fabric. I found it in the remnant bin one day I was working at Joann Fabrics and I knew I just needed it. It's too busy to use as a whole bag.. so I wanted to just use it as an accent piece and I think it turned out beautiful with the two other fabrics I chose... light pink and black with white and pink orchids. The orchids print is bold enough to handle the busy print. Also, the underside of the handles are the light pink.. again, I think the busy print would have been just too, too busy. Oh, and I put a cell phone pocket on the inside of the bag :-)

And because I love this orchid fabric so much.. I made a skirt out of the pink orchids fabric.. simple shape just like my other "simple summer skirt" except taken in more on the sides because this fabric is not as flexible and didn't just drape down so it was having a bell shape thing going on that was so UNflattering. I also tried a new "thing" this type with the elastic... it's cut in two pieces, I sewed down one side and put the elastic into the waste band... fit the elastic and then pinned it closed.. then I sewed over the elastic while stretching it... and sewed the other side and hemmed the bottom.. there are few reasons i did the elastic like this.. 1 - it's easier. unbelievably easier in this order. 2 - i hate when the elastic twists, which is why i sewed over it and 3 - it gives it that nice even crinkle look
