computer desk question

you know the laminate that short of has a wood grain feeling to it but obviously isn't real wood because it's ontop of flake wood? There is a oak colored desk that fits my needs but the other pieces we like are in cherry wood... how can I turn the oak into cherry, is it possible? or do I have to end up just painting it a plain color because it just doesn't come in cherry colored wood >_<
