[identity profile] agenthelen.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
i apologise in advance for crossposting, but i want to show this to both the
[livejournal.com profile] knitting and [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl communities.

i was jealous of everyones super spunky phat hats on the knitting livejournal, and i decided to make "the phat hat for newbies who don't want to tackle cables just yet". i made it out of three balls of 8ply wool on fairly large needles- i think a size 10 and a half(US, i think).
i find myself getting confused with guage and needle size. being australian, and dealing in metrics, i find inches so huge because i'm used to centimeters and i have a chart of needle sizes on the wall. also, i'm finding it difficult to find any yarn bigger than 8 ply.

anyways, i casted on something like 50 stitches and knitted for a while in rib before knitting in stockingette. i used another hat i had brought from the markets last year as a guide for measurements. i ripped this hat apart soo many times to get the guage and number of stitches correct. then i ran out of two of the colours of wool, 3/4 of the way through the hat(the lighter grey and the multicolour), so i went and brought more multicolour but couldnt find the grey in 3 stores that i went to. i'd brought the original ball when i was on holidays, and had almost given up when i found a match *phew*.. anyways, i'm very happy with it. i can't wait till winter.

(a very well behaved boyfriend modelling..)

(me showing the top view- i like the puppy ear look!)

this is the first proper thing i've finished(i'm convinced accessories don't really count because they aren't a neccessity), so i'm really happy with this!

anyways, i don't know if anybody is interested, but i have a website and my crafty pictures usually end up there. http://spycore.net

thanks!
