a little help por favor

i'm fairly new to the whole sewing thing (but i've been crafting forever). i'm almost done with my very first purse (which i'll post pictures of once i sew the handles on) and i'm already thinking about my next project.

i want to make my friend fuzzy pajama pants out of disney princess fleece. are there any tips you can give me? or point me towards a good tutorial? i also need to figure out the measurements on the waist band. how many inches is a size 8 (women, duh)?
