Help with finishing a golf leaf project
Jan. 15th, 2007 07:56 pmThis is my first post here but I have loved looking at all of you lovely ladies creativeness. I have a bit of an issue with a these tables I gold leafed and painted
So here they are:

The problem I seem to have is that they are still a bit sticky, err tacky. I sealed them last weekend but when I put a newspaper down on it some of it stayed stuck to the table. A little water took care of it but these are intended to be coffee tables that will get used a lot. So how do I fix it? We have thought of getting a glass overlay but that seems to be really expensive. Does it just need 10 more coats of sealer? If so I'd really like to use a non-oil based sealer that wont be stinky so I can use it inside.
Here is what I have used so far:
Red Acrylic Paint
Mona Lisa Metal Leaf (not real gold)
Mona Lisa Metal Leaf Sealer- Two coats (oil based and crazy stinky)
I have some minwax polyurethane that I expect will be too smelly for indoor use.
My concern is that the gold leaf product says not to use water based sealers but what if I use it on top of the oil based one I already used?
.... a million thanks
