HELP!

I am offering private art lessons to an 11 year old girl who has NO experience with art - even in her public school classroom. I want to make sure i give her a thorough overview of different kinds of media as well as open up the doors of creativity to her and really make sure that she feels free to express herself. so my question to you is this... what should i offer? what do you wish you had learned? what kinds of things help spark you to feel creative and free to express yourself?
