A couple new clay doodles with stories under this cut and also a lizard. Large pics!

Did this duo last weekish

There is a disturbing story that goes with this one but I will spare you. (I'll post it in comments if anyone cares enough but tl;dr and all of that)

There is a story that goes with this piece as well but it is sweeter.

"Oh, my scales and tail," Hubert whimpered, his eye-ridges furrowing with worry. "Of course, this happens on my watch. Mother and Father trusted me to do this one thing, this one simple job, and of course I've botched it.

"'Mind Second Egg,' Mother said. 'Your father and I have not been out on our own since you were hatched, and you are old enough now to keep an eye on an unhatchling.'

"'Do a good job,' Father said, 'and we'll bring you back a nice side of venison, all for you.'

"And me and my big mouth! I say, 'Of course, Mother, Father! Watching Second Egg is an easy enough job. I've watched both of you do it for months now. I will turn it once every three hours, just like you do, Father. And I will make sure it does not get too hot or too cold, as you do, Mother. I will be the best big brother and the best eggsitter that there ever has been!'

"Well, they had me fooled. Eggsitting is no easy job. I've only been here alone with this tiny thing for an hour and I've already messed things up."

The young dragon bit his claws and moaned. "Oh, oh, oh, what will happen to poor old Hubert? What if Mother is so mad at what I've done that she throws me out of the cave? What if Father is so disappointed in me that he flames me where I sit? I've messed up before," he said, "but this is pretty much the worst thing I've ever done. And I don't even know how it happened!"

The little fledgling sighed. "Well, there's nothing for it. I shall just have to write a note and leave home before my parents have to kick me out. It will save them the embarassment, at least."

Hubert sat up late into the night, composing the best apology he could on an old scroll. "Dear Mother and Father, I honestly don't know how to tell you this, and I admit I don't know quite how it happened, but it occurred on my watch, so it is surely my fault. With a heavy heart, I will leave your home so you will not have to look upon me and be reminded of any failure. I am ashamed of myself for what I have done. From the deepest part of my soul, I apologize for breaking Second Egg."

But the little dragon cried himself out over the scroll, blurring the scrawlings, and eventually fell asleep before he could finish carrying out his plan. So exhausted he was from his guilt and shame, he didn't hear his parents arrive home.

"Oh, Darling, look, Hubert has fallen asleep curled up around the nest," Mother said.

"He was definitely a good choice for eggsitter. I was a little worried that he might be too young. Oh, and look!" Father cried, pointing to the nest.

As Mother and Father moved closer to the sleeping Hubert, they saw a big, bold crack running around Second Egg. It rocked back and forth in its nest.

"It's hatching!" Mother said, "What a nice surprise this will be for young Hubert. On his watch, after all!"

----------

Poor Hubert, no one ever told him that sometimes eggs cracking is a good thing :(

The best part of this sculpture is that Hubert looks almost as horrified if you remove the nest and set him on a sheet of bad news like a large cellphone bill or something ^___^

Both the Duppy & Gritter and Hubert & the nest/Second Egg are made of polymer clay, baked and painted, and triple-glazed for protection against scratches.

Also for fun here is my lizard Queso trying to beeee the Duppy

(His eyes are too big, he knows, but he's trying so hard)
