Good day all! First I want to say that it's a pleasure looking at all your wonderful crafts. There are some very talented and creative people in this community, thank you for sharing it all!

And now on to the craftiness!

I recently became engaged, and immediately dove into the wedding plans. As I've always loved wedding stuff, and I'm fairly crafty, I decided to do as much of the wedding stuff as I can myself. This will include my invitations, favours, decorations and...my cake! I have a fair understanding of how expensive they can be, and the wedding is going to be expensive enough without having to shell out hundreds of dollars on a cake. SO! I took my crochet hook in-hand and got to work. This will be used for the official pictures, and it'll make a nice decoration at the reception. I'm planning on serving a just-as-tasty but less expensive slab cake to my guests.

For each "layer" I cut 2 discs out of 3" thick white styrofoam (it looked like it had snowed in my back porch when I was done) and then fit the crocheted pieces over top. I used pearl-headed pins to affix the "icing" to the foam so it would stay put. I used wooden skewers to hold the bottom and the middle layers together. The flowers are all silk, and the ribbon is grosgrain. I used pretty little liquer glasses I found at a local dollar store 2 for $1. All in all, instead of spending $250+ on an edible version, I get this one which will (obviously) look great in pictures and only ran me about $60 cdn. and a little bit of elbow grease. Pretty good deal.

So here ya go!

I am considering taking out the larger roses on the bottom tier, I think they are sticking out a little bit too far. Other than that, however, this puppy is DONE. I'm very happy with it, even with the sticky-out roses. What do you folks think?

Thanks for looking!
